Premier League Saturday, Gameweek 18: Open Thread
For a change, we have eight Premier League matches in store today. And while it sounds like a cliche, there really are some intriguing match-ups today.
The early kickoff between Wigan Athletic and Arsenal should be a walk in the park for the Gunners. Or will it? Wigan is one of those unpredictable teams that you don’t know which version will show up. Hopefully it’ll be an entertaining match to start the weekend, no matter who wins.
Then at 10am ET/3pm UK time, there are six matches being played across England. Take your pick from Tottenham versus Stoke (flash versus brash), Manchester City vs Reading, West Bromwich Albion against Norwich City, West Ham United versus Everton, Southampton v Sunderland and Newcastle against QPR.
Last but not least, the late kick-off today is Liverpool against Fulham.
Before, during or after today’s matches, post your rants, raves, questions or observations in the comments section below.

Off out on the lash today so you won’t hear much from me. No Charlie Adam, I’ll take a point. Be interesting to see how the ref deals with it today. Despite all the protestations all teams have defenders who grasp and grapple, if it’s clamped down on fairly expect Crouch and Jones to have a much easier ride.
All in all this week over here we’ve been vilified yet again, imagine if it was Felliani who’d been headbutted, wed be playing non league by now.
Martin Keown, Prick.
Decent pace on this one so far.
Wigan pressing the hell out of them but keep screwing up their final ball. Quite entertaining stuff. Arseblog will be required reading later if Wigan can pull this one off.
Wigan should be winning this game by 2! Jack Wilshire continues his quest to replace robin van dirty as arsenals dirtiest player while also embellishing everytime he gets touched he rolls over screaming, you have to appreciate the work he & Santi Fallover training sessions.
to early in the season for Wigan to worry about winning.
Bang on Dust, they’ll get backed up by the apologists though.
anyone else having trouble getting fox soccer 2 go to load properly?
on the computer that is. working ok on my phone, but would prefer to watch on my computer.
yes. I have the same problem. pretty annoying actually.
just found it works on safari, but not firefox. dunno.
thanks!
I have the same problem using Chrome, but it loads correctly with IE. How’s that for irony!
They are broadcasting Sunderland and Sothhampton on the Tottenham game! WTF!!!!!
Well they fixed it. Oh, I can’t wait till NBC takes over.
Foxsoccer2go is really bad this morning. Thehad issues last week as well.
How did Ade miss that!
64 % of possession and nothing to show for it…yet
Whitehead is a train wreck. Could cost us the match all by himself.
Not Whitehead, Woody from Toy Story.
Listening on talkSPORT. Gave up the Sports Pack when TWC jacked the rate 50%.
Transport! You’re almost a Potteries boy now!
Tough listening. Every time the commentator’s voice rose I thought one of Spurs’ shots was going in. Stoke are crazy if they sell Bego. I don’t care what the price is.
Great point! Bego MOM.
See, you’re getting it now. Boring the arsenal off the opposition is entertaining.
Atrocious winner for city. Stone cold foul on Barry goes unnoticed by mike dean.
Barry didn’t foul anyone.
Oh my %^%$#@!#%^&*^$# god.
Is it too late to go back in time and become an Everton or Fulham supporter? You know, one of those nice clubs that will pretty much always stay up, will give you some hope of maybe the FA Cup or European play, and will just allow you to enjoy the game.
Can’t take many more like this. Just some serious respect out to Reading for playing a phenomenal game defensively. City actually had a decent flow going forward for the most part today.
To say I’m disappointed with the result is an understatement. I thought it was a horrible game, we absolutely dominated but could not convert any of our 21 shots…seriously? Stoke had 4 shots..4!!
Ade was terrible, really ooor movement from him, the push on bale could have gone either way, it was a blatant push on the replay. I think overall the ref had a bad day. We should have finished our chances tho. The pulling and elbows all the time get annoying, the pulling on jan, Lennon and Defoe, the elbow and pulling on dembele are just a few that had me jumping up and screaming at the tv LOL
I haven’t seen stoke In a while, but I have to say I didn’t enjoy watching it because of all the non football activity. IMO on a set piece tugging is one thing but the open play activity is just wrong.
Oh…the Barry goal was a foul, far worse than any of caulkers that were disallowed this year. Refs need to be consistent.
Onwards to villa, I would image the tactic of crossing the ball against stoke to Defoe and lazy ade will be abandoned on the return fixture and replaced with one that focuses on just running at them into the box.
Disappointing draw. We really need another captive midfielder.
Didn’t see any of it so can’t really comment apart from saying I’m happier than you are and Gallas is as dirty as any Stoke player.
I’ll happily sort you tickets out for the Britannia if you’re over Dust. My brother in law is Spurs fan so it’ll be nice to see him sulk over Christmas.
Xmas Pud by the Coach Horse brewing co is my ale of choice over the next few days.
CANNOT WAIT UNTIL BOXING DAY! GOARN STOKE!
Begining of March I’m over. I agree about gallas, he didn’t play tho.
A good result for stoke
If I hadn’t given up the Sports Pack I could have watched and corrected all your obvious errors about the match.
When was the last time Fulham was so bad? They were woeful against QPR and they’ve been terrible today.
Cheers,
The Gaffer
Just watching the 2nd half at Anfield, the atmosphere is appalling. Just boos like it’s a pantomime, zero originality whatsoever.
Berbatov is a talented player but his flapping his arms at his teammates and quiting on plays if a pass isn’t perfect really shows up his team. Berbatov probably isn’t missed at Manchester.
I’ve always liked him, but you’re right on the mark.
He did the same thing last week in the match against QPR. He’s not getting the service he needs to make a difference. Seems like the other Fulham players are either at odds with him or have severely dipped in form.
Cheers,
The Gaffer
Sturridge having a medical at Liverpool tomorrow.
Ohh Danny ” I’ve never seen a shot I can’t take ” Sturridge going to Liverpool. Best of luck to him when he plays everyone but Chelsea.
