Leeds United vs Chelsea, Capital One Cup Quarter-Final: Open Thread
Leeds United and Chelsea has traditionally been one of the big rivalries in English football both on and off the pitch. On the pitch, there are lots of memories of the two teams who battled each other during the early 70s to become the best team in England. Off the pitch, the supporters from Leeds and Chelsea were some of the most notorious football hooligans in the late 70s and early 80s.
Although they’re separated by one division, both teams are back in action against each other today in a must-see Capital One Cup match. If Leeds wants to knock Chelsea out of the cup and land a semi-final spot, today will be their best chance in a very long time. The Blues are suffering from jet lag after returning from Japan, while Chelsea will also be down in the dumps after their loss against Corinthians. Plus, the noise and intimidating atmosphere at Elland Road will certainly be something that Chelsea players are not used to when playing in the Premier League.

I’m at work sneaking the on-line stream of match. I saw Luiz was involved in the opening goal for Leeds. Was the goal a howler by Luiz ?

I wish it was Leeds but I think we can get past the Swans to get to Wembley.
It’s going to be a tough January for Swansea. They play Arsenal in the FA Cup, and now Chelsea in the League Cup.
On top of that, Swansea have 5 league games in January. It’s going to be a hectic month and a tough ask to fight on three fronts with several players still out injured.

The League Cup semis-final is a 2-leg affair and Swansea have the second at home so if they can hold Chelsea at Stamford Bridge it will give them a good chance to get to the finals.
Very true. Michael Laudrup said he was hoping for the second leg to be at Swansea, so his wish came true. But it’s going to be tough to expect the Swans to beat Chelsea over two legs. Chelsea will be desperate to win some silverware especially after getting knocked out of the Champions League.
