Reading vs Arsenal, Premier League Gameweek 17: Open Thread
Today’s final match of Premier League gameweek 17 features two teams, yet again, who are desperate for a win. Arsenal desperately needs a win to shake off the immense pressure the manager and players have had on their backs from the fans, critics and the press. Reading, on the other hand, need a win to move off the bottom of the Premier League. Anything less and it’ll be a very tense Christmas period for both sides.
Despite both teams needing a win, it’s Arsenal that’s under more pressure. No one is anticipating that Reading has what it takes to win today despite giving Manchester United a run for its money recently in the 3-4 loss. Reading should be able to play their normal game, hoping that no costly mistakes will happen. Arsenal, on the other hand, will want to get an early goal to take the pressure off. The Gunners will be hoping for a goal scoring fest like they had in October when they beat Reading 7-5 in the Capital One Cup at the Madejski.

go READING beat Arsenal win one for the minnows.2/1 to READING
I’d go for that.
It is a good thing you don’t bet!
…but I’d certainly take that score.
not one of my better selections should have went Christmas shopping.
Could be a great opportunity for Pogrebnyak. He certainly could cause some problems for the Gunners defense, especially in the air.
Cheers,
The Gaffer
Come on reading the entire planet is backing you!…..well all bar a few delusional “fans” of Accounting FC
Holly s*** how did they not equalize there! WoW
Horrible defending by Radimg.. No surprise there I guess, they are bottom of the league.
Reading look so lackluster, beat down almost
This could get silly
Federici already glassy eyed.
i would like to be the first to welcome Reading back to City Ground next August.
that will leave a mark!OUCH!
McManaman needs to stop with this “kick a player” nonsense
It’s silly. Just macho man nonsense. McManaman should know better.
McPermonaman was one of the biggest softies in the game when he played too.
Well I think he’s not being totally literal, he wants to see some fight out of Reading’s defenders that’s all. Love how exasperated he sounds talking about the hosts and he’s right. Good color guy.
Federici could give up 5 or 6 and be man of the match.
Reading have given up and it’s not even the second half yet. Pathetic.
Cheers,
The Gaffer
Stephanie McPermonaman is a an childhood Everton fan, but even so how can he be all over Joey Barton but say that Fellaini 3 game ban is fine. Such a joke.
The FA criticize uefa for not sending the right message with racism but multiple violent actions is ok, head butts in particular are only a worth 3 games.
Arsenal should certainly enjoy the match and the three points, but I don’t know what they can really take from it. Reading have been basically invisible.
Guy
very astute i had the same thought just papering over the problems.
“Papering over the cracks.” I hear this every time Arsenal win. Every team has its problems, but it doesn’t mean that they can’t enjoy the victory and the performance, especially today after the loss to Bradford.
so Arsenal beats Reading away so the train is back on the tracks and that loss to the Bantams never happen.
let me guess Wenger will come out and say they can finish second.
Well now!
And here comes the comeback. Took long enough. I’ve been waiting.
my fantasy captain is awesome today…..Santi Cazorla.
Reading have the worst defense in the league and that’s why they will get relegated. If they want to stay up they must improve defensively.
5-2 to the Arsenal… my favorite scoreline.
