Premier League Sunday, Gameweek 10: Open Thread
Today’s two matches in the Premier League feature Reading against Queens Park Rangers followed by Liverpool against Newcastle United. But, in many ways, it’s Mark Hughes versus Brian McDermott leading into Brendan Rodgers against Alan Pardew.
Pardew is the safe one on the block, but QPR manager Mark Hughes is under tremendous pressure to avoid the sack, while Reading manager Brian McDermott will want to get a minimum of a point today after two painful losses during the past week. Equally, Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers will want to put his home defeat against Swansea out of his mind by getting a much-needed win today against a Newcastle United side that hasn’t won at Anfield in yonks.
Here’s QPR’s starting line-up: Cesar, Diakite, Traore, Ferdinand, Cisse, Taarabt, Mackie, Granero, Nelsen, Bosingwa, Hoilett.
Here’s Reading’s lineup: McCarthy, Gunter, Shorey, Leigertwood, Hunt, McAnuff, McCleary, Morrison, Tabb, Gorkss, Roberts.

The betting has stopped for Redknapp becoming the next QPR manager. If QPR don’t turn this around in the second half then it’s a certainty that Hughes will be gone by the morning.
Reading are playing pretty well considering the shock of losing to Arsenal after leading by 4 goals.
I don’t think redknapp will save qpr if he is brought in.
They will still go down!
If Hughes stays they will certainly go down. They will have a fighting chance with Redknapp.
I think QPR is a different situation than spurs.
With all dues respect to QPR, they don’t have the players that Spurs do/did.
Reading started brightly, in the first and have again come out of the traps faster this second half again. 2 corners in 1 minute.
Barton critiquing Mark Hugh’s for not selecting Zamora is typical of how much attention they Pay to the league and even their own broadcast. He is out through injury, the commentators even said so, injections in the hip. LoL, pay attentionto your own broadcast, bring on NBC!
Although David pleat should probably be left behind.
I do believe Zamora made the match day list…he is on the bench.
Yes he is on the subs bench, but that isn’t because Hugh’s doesn’t want to use him, it because he hampered by the hip injury and could probably only play 5 or 10 minutes. Hugh’s thinks he’s great.
But when these pundits don’t like someone they just go after them, without paying attention to the facts.

Fox’s pre-match coverage of the Liverpool/Newcastle match, is all over the place.
i hate to admit it but Liverpool looks very good going forward.
The team has no ability to score though

From that second angle it looked like he didn’t get Suarez with the studs.
Well now going into this one I figured on Suarez acting like a baby, Suarez doing something almost superhuman to score, and an eventual 1-1 draw.
I’m not always right, but when I am it usually involves predicting some combination of these things.
Questions for the pod: Is this the end for Mark Hughes? Not just in the premier league but in england and in europe? I wonder who would still hire him at this point. It seems he’s been found out in a really really bad way.
Liverpool were much more dangerous playing direct with Suarez on Newcastle’ shoulder. Problem is that’s not how Brendon Rodgers likes to play. Up until that point Gerrard looked totally frustrated.
One thing’s for certain, without Suarez Liverpool would right now be hovering right in the relegation zone.
