Liverpool Third Shirt For 2012-13 Season: Dark Purple #LFCKit [PHOTO]

Liverpool’s much-talked about third shirt has been unveiled for the 2012-13 season.

The change shirt, or third shirt, that Liverpool will be wearing in many of its Europa League matches is designed by Warrior Sports, and is sure to generate a lot of debate. According to the Liverpool website, they describe the colors of Liverpool’s third shirt as “coloured nightshade, orange and white.” I guess “coloured nightshade” is code word for dark purple.

Liverpool’s third kit takes inspiration from popular past goalkeeper strips worn by David James during the 1994-95 and 1995-96 seasons, and Pepe Reina in 2010-11. The dark purple shirt is accentuated by white sleeves featuring a tribal design, and orange trim. The sponsor’s name and LFC crest, meanwhile, are yellow. On the back of the shirt are the Hillsborough eternal flame and the number 96 in tribute to the football supporters who died at the Hillsborough Disaster in 1989.

Overall, I’m not a fan of Liverpool’s third shirt design. I appreciate the effort to make it look different than anything else that’s out there, but it doesn’t look that different than the dark color of the away shirt. Warrior could have at least tried to use a different color to differentiate the dark, drab colors of the away and third jerseys.
