The draw for the quarter-finals of the 2011-12 Carling Cup has been made, and there are quite a few mouthwatering matches in store.

The draw revealed:

Arsenal v Manchester City

Chelsea v Liverpool

Manchester United v Crystal Palace

Cardiff City v Blackburn Rovers

The matches between Arsenal and Manchester City and Chelsea versus Liverpool, should be entertaining ones, no doubt. In the two other games, the two high-flying Championship sides Crystal Palace and Cardiff City will be looking forward to shock wins against Manchester United and Blackburn Rovers respectively.

Rovers manager Steve Kean must be counting his lucky stars. Even if the team continues its poor form in the Premier League, he can leverage his team’s success in the Carling Cup as a reason to keep him employed. And now the former Swansea player will be looking forward to the game against Cardiff. A win will book Blackburn a semi-final dream match.

The Carling Cup games will be played on or around November 28, 2011.

Flip side: If Blackburn lost that draw, Steve Kean has officially run out of places to hide. He needs a fair run in this competition. If they lose, he won’t make it to February when he can tell the Venky’s all about the magic of the FA Cup and buy a few more weeks.

Arsenal v City will be interesting especially after Arsenal demolished Chelsea today. Man Utd v Palace will also be entertaining, hopefully the Red Devils will be running on all cylinders by then.

City v arsenal will be a good game. If arsenal play fringe players they will get hammered. If they play an ecperianced team they will give city a good game.

Given the fact that utd traditionaly play a mixture of youngsters and fringe players you would have to put us as behind Chelsea, Liverpool and city as favorites to go all the way. I’m thinking it will be a Chelsea v city final.

  12. MB says:

City v Arsenal. City will play their second team because they need to rest their first team for champions league fixtures. Arsenal dont have to worry about that because they just need 1 more win to qualify for knock out stages. So it might be Arsenal strongest line up against Citys second team. That will be entertaining to watch.

Depending on the results in Naples, City’s fate for the UCL may already be decided. With a win they guarantee themselves a spot in the knockout rounds. If that is the case then City will be able to focus on collecting as much silverware as possible. Don’t be surprised to see considerable balance between “first” and “second” team players in their Liverpool, Arsenal, and Norwich fixtures of that week.
