Leeds United v Barcelona, 1975 European Cup Semi-Final: Friday Flashback Videos

It’s incredible to consider that in the European Cup semi-final of 1975, Leeds United played Barcelona. Of course, Leeds were massive in the 1970s and have since fallen in recent years, but it’s still remarkable to consider that the two clubs played each other on a massive stage.

In the above video (the first part of a three part series), you can watch the highlights from the first leg of the European Cup (later to become the Champions League) semi-final from Elland Road in Leeds in a superbly entertaining match.

There are so many wonderful players to watch in the video including Johan Cruyff, Joe Jordan (now one of the assistant managers at Tottenham), Billy Bremner and a wonderful match from Gordon McQueen who would go on to achieve success at Manchester United.

After you’ve watched that, click on through below to watch the other two videos featuring the rest of the footage.

I won’t give the score away in this match, for those of you who don’t know it or don’t remember, but the scoreline in the second leg at Camp Nou was Barcelona 1-1 Leeds United.

Seems a bit harsh on Barca, thery’re quite a good team………

It’s not that incredible to think that Leeds have crossed paths with Barcelona…after all, it was only a handful of years ago that they were in the Champions League playing against Lazio and AC Milan. Their downfall has been so rapid and recent that you would have to be very recent new-comer to not know that Leeds have gone through periods of being pretty good.

such fond memories of those days stood in the south stand watching my beloved leeds , oh for those days to return .

  4. Jon Sharp says:

This Leeds United line up is more familiar to me than most of the premier league teams today. Still seems odd not to see them at the top of the Prem.

“Cruyff, the world’s most expensive player, bought from Ajax for over 900,000 pounds.”

    LOL

  6. Aram says:

Wow watching that truly gave me shivers. I’m 23 years old so I’ve only watched football since ’94 but I wish I would have been born earlier to have seen the 70′s because the crowds seem so into it and the pace is so fast.
