The FA Cup – Pride, Passion, History, Giant Killing: Video

The third round of the FA Cup kicks off this Saturday. For many soccer fans, myself included, it’s one of the best weekends in the year when you get to see several teams you normally don’t see do battle against the giants of English football. Saturday’s FA Cup coverage kicks off with Arsenal at home against Leeds United, and many eyes will be watching to see if Leeds can beat Arsenal like they defeated Manchester United last season in the same tournament.

To build up the excitement for the third round of this majestic tournament, The FA has produced a video (see above) which includes some highlights from previous years of the competition as well as interviews with some of the famous names in English football.

Soccer fans in the United States can view the TV schedule for FA Cup games featuring Premier League teams.

    Gaffer,
    I know Arsenal Leeds is on FS+ but will it be in HD? I got directv they usually got SD and HD for EPL games not sure if it will be the same for FA Cup.

    I was just browsing upcoming games on foxsoccer.tv and noticed that they plan on showing some FA Cup games (Arsenal-Leeds, Sheffield United-Aston Villa) but not others (Tottenham Hotspur-Charlton Athletic and Chelsea-Ipswich Town stand out as omissions). Is there any reason they they’re picking and choosing rather than just offering them all? It can’t be a licensing issue, so what’s the deal?

      Not all of the FA Cup games are televised. Spurs vs Charlton is not, neither is Chelsea against Ipswich. There are so many matches that they only televise a small portion.

        See, I would’ve thought the FA Cup was more like March Madness. The first two days of Madness have 16 games each, but because CBS has all the rights, they put streams of all of them online. You can even set up a mosaic similar to what I’ve heard ESPN3 does.

        Does this mean that if Ipswich Town can pull off the upset (not impossible given Chelsea’s current form), all that we’ll have from the game is still photos?

          Joe, only a small number of games will be televised. Don’t forget that radio commentary is big in England, so the Ipswich against Chelsea game will broadcast via radio. There may be some TV cameras there to capture the goals so they can be included in the goal highlight shows of the day.
