2010-11 Premier League on US TV: Preliminary TV Schedule, Aug thru Dec

Tottenham Hotspur against Manchester City will kick off the Premier League TV coverage for soccer fans worldwide and in the United States on ESPN2 beginning with the new 2010-11 season on Saturday, August 14.

59 Responses to 2010-11 Premier League on US TV: Preliminary TV Schedule, Aug thru Dec
nice to see espn2 get some later games. That HD makes such a difference with viewing the sport. C’mon FSC HD get with directv on this stuff!
I broke the news in February that ESPN would be showing more games on TV during the 2010-11 season, but until the final TV schedules for FSC, FS+ and ESPN come out, or unless they issue a press release, we won’t know for sure until then.
The article about ESPN getting more Premier League games for the 2010-11 season can be found at: http://epltalk.com/espn-reaches-deal-to-show-more-premier-league-games-in-u-s-exclusive/15705
It’s possible that either ESPN or FSC may have had a change of heart in terms of how many EPL games ESPN is showing this upcoming season. We’ll just have to wait and see.
Cheers,
The Gaffer
Wasn’t it rumored ESPN2 was going to get the early Sunday matches? Or that they were going to increase the number of games from last season? Has that changed?
Can’t wait to see Chelsea take the quadruple next season!!
I thought I had read ESPN 2 had the rights for additional EPL timeslots this year? Is that true?
We cant assume ESPN(2) will get the Monday games again this year?
CR7, for the opening weekend of the Premier League, ESPN2 doesn’t have the Monday game listed on their TV schedule, so we can’t presume ESPN2 will still have the Monday fixtures at this time. Plus, last season ESPN2 was able to use the ESPN feed from their UK team, so it was a very ESPN-centric broadcast. This year, ESPN in the UK does not have the rights to the Monday matches. Sky Sports does. ESPN2 could still show those games using the TWI/IMG international feed, but until I know for sure, I can’t say.
Cheers,
The Gaffer
Please more ESPN2, FSC in SD is practically unwatchable after all the beautiful World Cup viewing we are enjoying.
I am really hoping for the early Sat and Sun games on ESPN2. That would be so helpful in avoiding FSC and I even pay for Fox Soccer Plus.
Does FoxSoccer.tv only carry the games from Fox Soccer Plus, or does it also carry the Fox Soccer games?
At this time, only games from Fox Soccer Plus. But fingers crossed that policy will change during the 2010-11 Premier League season.
Cheers,
The Gaffer
That would be really nice. At the moment, my wife and I have given up cable TV to help economize. With espn3, I can still watch quite a few matches. I should be able to swing it for FoxSoccer.tv, but I want to see if it is worth my while. I think it would if it included both the Fox Soccer channels.
Hey Gaffer,
I believe I saw on your Premier League TV Schedule last year that every game was on FoxSoccer.tv if it wasn’t on regular TV. So did they change their policy since then or was I mistaken in seeing all of those games listed on FoxSoccer.tv?
Thanks,
Pat
Every Premier League that’s not on Fox Soccer Channel and not on ESPN2 was on FoxSoccer.tv last season. Hopefully it’ll be the same for this season too.
Cheers,
The Gaffer
Ok, excuse me if I seem dense… but what you are saying is that foxsoccer.tv actually should cover the most games? i.e., all EPL games that don’t make ESPN or FSC?
Also, will espn3.com cover all the EPL games that espn2 does (kind of like they do with MLS?).
Great news – Thanks, Gaffer!! Now, just need to get DirecTV on the ball with some FSC HD
COYS!!
It’s a shame that the Chelsea vs WesBrom is going to be on FSC. I just read an article on ESPNsoccernet about how ESPN Live coverage for ESPN UK is kicking off at that game and they are increasing the number of cameras from 16 to 23 and all the pre/half/post game commentary, and the sideline reporting they will have. I can’t wait for the rights of the EPL to go back up for bid and ESPN grabs them from Fox.
sideline reporting? o god, please get ESPN out of the UK. football doesn’t need sideline reporting, they already have action going on on the field
This link says otherwise.
http://soccernet.espn.go.com/news/story?id=806318&sec=england&cc=5901
Matt, those TV listings are for ESPN UK viewers only. ESPN UK viewers see different games than ESPN US viewers do.
Cheers,
The Gaffer
If FSI is reading this, know that I won’t be subbing to foxsoccer.tv since you hoarded the Sunday morning telecasts. Having that game on ESPN2 would have grown the game here but unfortunately now it’s going to be same old same old.
FoxSoccer.tv should cover most of the games. However, the biggest games of the season are typically on Fox Soccer Channel and ESPN2. So those games will not be on FoxSoccer.tv unless there’ll be changes announced in the next few weeks.
As of right now, ESPN3.com does not have the online rights to the games that are shown on ESPN2. Those games are not available online (live, legally) in the United States.
Cheers,
The Gaffer
I wish I could get ESPN3.com Gaffer but my cable provider wont make a deal with ESPN.
Thanks Gaffer. Not exactly what I was hoping to hear. Is there a place where the games are archived that I can watch them within a reasonable period (say two days is probably the longest I can avoid checking the blog for the results) after the game is played?
The FoxSoccer.tv games are archived there for several days.
Cheers,
The Gaffer
All EPL games or just the ones that FoxSoccer.tv has shown in the first place?
In any case, thanks for all the info.
Only FoxSoccer.tv ones, not all EPL games.
Cheers,
The Gaffer
Gaffer,
I was chatting with foxsoccertv.com customer service. I was told and couldn’t believe it.. that only Day Passes are available and that all current subscriptions on monthly cycles will be cancelled this month. The person I was talking to must be mistaken but I could not renew my subscription. Maybe you guys could find out the real deal
any news on fox soccer plus going to HD. I am lucky enough to have dish network and love fsc in hd.
Hate to hear that ESPN3 will not have an archive. I don’t get FSC and 7:45 is just a little too early for me.
Gaffer,
Have FSC, FS+ and ESPN said which time slots they’re receiving this upcoming season? Are they not even doing it that way at all (instead hand picking which matches they want/don’t want)? Just curious because ESPN doesn’t release their programming schedule this far in advance yet you have the information.
Thank you!
David
David, FSC and FS+ have released preliminary schedules. ESPN has not. But from the information I have, I understand that ESPN2 will continue to show the early Saturday morning games. And probably some other timeslots too (hence the “TBD” in the above listings).
Cheers,
The Gaffer
Actually, they have the early Saturday games listed through the first month of games here:
http://www.espnmediazone3.com/us/programming/schedule/#tvl_resultsAnchor
TheGaffer, note on that link it also lists ESPN3 as having the same premier league games with the word “tape” instead live but it lists the same timeslot….not sure but it looks as if maybe ESPN3 will have those games.
sorry to bombard the comments but I just noticed FoxSoccerPlusHD is now available on my cable box. I’m in Albany, NY and have Time Warner.
but still no regular FSC in hd but maybe that’s coming soon or I’m just not seeing it right now.
Gaffter – Any updates on DirecTV (or other cables/satellite carriers) and FSC in regards to their HD channel?
No updates yet, sorry Mark.
Cheers,
The Gaffer
if you click “all” for “soccer” in the upcoming tab and scroll down you will start to see English Premier Leauge listed on ESPN3. I think that they could indeed be showing EPL games that are on the ESPN TV channels as well. Somebody confirm this for me. But if ESPN3 is showing replays of EPL games I might just forgoe a foxsoccer.tv subscription this year and be content with ESPN3 and Footytube. (I dont have cable TV)
Good catch. Let me check with ESPN and I’ll get back to everyone on EPL Talk.
Cheers,
The Gaffer
To answer James Dunn’s question, I checked with Fox Soccer and they said that the FoxSoccer.tv daily pass (and the lack of a monthly subscription being available) is not permanent. They’re just doing some summer maintenance. Hope that helps answer your question/concerns.
Cheers,
The Gaffer
you might want to re check your facts because espn has listed their tv schedule for the premier league and it contradicts what you have posted
http://soccernet.espn.go.com/fixtures?cc=5901&league=eng.1
Erik, that’s the TV schedule for ESPN UK, not ESPN US – despite the fact that it shows US timezones.
Cheers,
The Gaffer
Any new bulletins in regards to Comcast getting Fox Soccer Plus ?
Nothing yet.
Cheers,
The Gaffer
Gaffer,
Any news on ESPN3.com? The ESPN MediaZone site is listing EPL games on ESPN3 in August. Is this a typo or have they acquired the online rights to the games ESPN2 will be showing?
They did a super job with the WC – it would be great to see them start to stream EPL. Also from the info you have it looks like FoxSoccer.tv will continue to not show live games that air on Fox Soccer Channel – last year they delayed them until 12 midnight EST. That leaves the online options, post Setanta, pretty light
I have a message in to ESPN, but I haven’t heard from them yet. I see the same games you see in the schedule, although they’re listed as taped, not live, but that may be a mistake. Also no word from FoxSoccer.tv regarding changes as of yet, but I usually interview a representative from Fox, GolTV and ESPN before each season to discuss all of the latest developments regarding programming for the new season. I hope to do that again this summer.
Cheers,
The Gaffer
Gaffer, good news for those of who rely on the web. ESPN3.com is listing a live EPL game at 7.30am on August 14. Hopefully all the ESPN2 games will be streamed live.
Gaffer, good news for those of us who rely on the web. ESPN3.com (in its 30 day preview) is listing an EPL game at 7.30am on August 14. Hopefully this means they have the online rights to all the ESPN2 games.
To follow up on earlier comment of yours – if all the “biggest” games are going to air on Fox Soccer Channel and ESPN2 (and the early schedule seems to indicate that), then what is the appeal of Fox Soccer Plus? If you are a rugby fan then the rugby coverage makes it attractive but for soccer only fans it would seem to have a limited appeal. It almost seems that the Fox Soccer channel should be the premium and the Fox Soccer plus the subscription. Do you have any insights?
Does anyone know if/when the Newcastle United v Man Utd August 16 game will have a TV station say it is showing it in the U.S.? If so, which one?
Nick, it should be live on television, but it hasn’t been decided yet whether it’ll be on Fox Soccer Channel, Fox Soccer Plus or ESPN2. As soon as I find out, I’ll post it on EPL Talk.
Cheers,
The Gaffer
it will be on ESPN2 (they’ve got it scheduled on their website generically as EPL from 2:30pm-5pm).
Is there any idea of when they’ll announce the Newcastle v Man. Utd. game TV channel for the USA? Every time I google it, I get the same “Sky Sports” result for UK but every thing for the USA says, “TBD.” Does anyone know when?
It still hasn’t been decided. Could be ESPN or could be Fox, or Fox Soccer Plus. We should hear something later this week.
Cheers,
The Gaffer
Any news as to when foxsoccer.tv will have completed their summer maintenance and allow for people buying annual subscriptions? Right now all you can buy is a daily pass for $4.95 .
Carolyn, they’re hoping to have it ready by this weekend.
Cheers,
The Gaffer
Gaffer -
I checked ESPN’s TV listings for August 16 and at 2:30 – 5 p.m. they have “English Premier League” listed, with no teams. I’d assume it’s Newcastle v Man Utd because that’s the only match on that day and it fits the timing.
Just thought I’d give you a heads up.
Nick
Thanks Nick for the heads-up. It’s a promising sign. It’s not listed on ESPN’s Soccernet or Mediazone sites however, but I’ll keep a close eye on developments.
Cheers,
The Gaffer
As of August 9 espn3.com has taken down their listing of all EPL games. Gaffer, do you know if that’s an oversight or if they’ve realized they don’t have the rights to the internet content? I wish ESPN or someone would work out a good HD package of on-demand live and replay internet EPL content. The WC in HD on demand this summer was fantastic, I’ve rewatched half of the WC to bridge the gap until this weekend.
Hey Gaffer…thanks for US TV schedule uptill Dec. Any update on schedule from Jan to May 2011??
Ricks, bookmark http://epltalk.com/premier-league-tv-schedule/ and keep on checking that out, which is updated weekly.
Cheers,
The Gaffer
