General Electric Eyeing English Premier League

If you haven’t noticed already, more major U.S. investors are getting giddy over the English Premier League. Dazzled by the opportunity to make enormous fortunes by increasing revenues for a global brand, GE is the latest to have caught the bug. Yes, General Electric.

According to ThisIsMoney.co.uk, GE hopes to make one or two major takeovers in England or on the Continent. However, the Premiership (or a Championship side) is the safer bet. If we had to make an educated guess, here are the clubs that are most likely to entice GE (in order of most to least likely):

  1. Newcastle United
  2. Everton
  3. Reading
  4. Bolton Wanderers
  5. Blackburn Rovers
  6. Tottenham Hotspur
  7. Derby County or West Bromwich Albion (depending which club goes up, presuming that West Brom can beat Wolves)
Could GE soon join Malcolm Glazer, Randy Lerner and then George Gillett Jr. and Tom Hicks? I’d be more surprised if something doesn’t happen.

If you were GE, which club would you acquire?

If I was GE I’d prob go with Tottenham as they’re the best team out of the bunch (as long as Berbatov stays)

but best looking on a kit?
I’d say the blue GE logo matches well with Everton or Blackburn.
So those are my three choices..

    Tottenham, Everton, and Blackburn..

Aren’t Bolton tied to Reebok as a sponsor since they play at the Reebok stadium?

I think GE is more interested in purchasing a football club as part of their assets than to worry about putting their logo on a club shirt.

That said, it would look good on a Toffees shirt!

    Cheers,
    The Gaffer

I’d think GE would want to buy the entire league rather than just one club….
