In an interesting development, the BBC and ITV announced today a unique partnership whereby the British networks will offer free high definition television (HDTV) in the scale of 200 channels to residents in the UK beginning spring 2008.

Unfortunately, I’m sure those of us outside the United Kingdom would be unable to watch this programming especially if the service is paid for from the TV license fees in that country.

As you may remember, ITV recently secured a deal with Setanta Sports to capture the TV rights to England internationals and the FA Cup beginning next year.
